Obituary For Patricia "Pat" Gorely

Patricia Stroud Gorely, 69, of Raleigh, NC passed away peacefully on November 16, 2015 surrounded by her loving family and friends.

Born in Quantico, VA, the daughter of a US Marine, Pat grew up in many locations including Cuba, Hawaii, California, and North Carolina. She graduated from White Oak High School in Jacksonville, NC and received her business degree from Hardbarger Business College in Raleigh. For many years, she worked at Howard/Merrell Advertising before retiring. Pat was a world traveler with her husband John E. Gorely and they shared a particular fondness for the American Southwest.

Pat was known and admired for her many creative passions. Whether it was her green thumb in her backyard secret garden, her masterful culinary skills in the kitchen or performing with Sassy Classic Dance Troupe, Pat was boundlessly creative. She started her own jewelry company, Divas & Dragonflies, and her uniquely crafted jewelry was showcased in many galleries and art shows.

More than anything else, Pat will be remembered as a generous spirit to all she knew. Pat was loved by so many, including her FBI circle of friends and best friend of over 50 years, Susan Collins Dail.

Pat is preceded in death by her parents Luther Phillip Stroud Sr. and Florence Maguire Stroud. She is survived by her husband of 19 years, John E. Gorely, her brother Phillip Stroud Jr. and his wife Lisa, her sister Penny Stroud, her step-daughters Jen Bauldree and Amy Gorely, her sons-in-law Mike Bauldree and John Bemis, her grandchildren Caroline, Matthew, and Rose, and many beloved nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Transitions Life Care of Raleigh (250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh NC 27607) or Carolina Poodle Rescue (6705 Union Highway, Pacolet, SC 29372). I have so many wonderful memories of Pat but the ones that really stand out are the times we shared in her beautiful secret garden outdoor room. Out there, is where our group bared our heartfelt concerns and played, dined on good food, listened to our favorite Motown music, laughed and even turned the hose on each other during the hot months! Pat's was generously gifted and shared her many talents with all. Her love for her friends and family was part of the beauty that always shined from within her.

My deepest condolences to the family. Pat was a beautiful person, so full of life. I enjoyed helping her reduce pictures, etc. to use in her jewelry making. I'll always remember her whenever I wear the earrings she gave to me. We will all miss her generous and loving spirit. Connie

I am so sorry to hear of Pat's death. I remember when I lived next door to her family and Edward and I tended her Grandmothers farm in bullocks. God be with her family now and forever more.

Hi my name is Kayla and I am a local bible teacher. I am so sorry for the loss of your loved one. There is a very comforting scripture at Isaiah 25:8. It says that soon Jehovah will swallow up death forever and that he will wipe away all of the tears. So we can all look forward to a time when death will be no more. I hope that this scripture can bring some true comfort during these difficult times.

Patsy and I got into "creative projects" together during that wonderful time on our Nebraska farm when Aunt Flo, Phil, Penny and Patsy came to live with us briefly while Uncle Phil was transferred to a new duty. Patsy was my best buddy in exploring our lives as 6-year olds. That era is richly filled with memories of our fun, world-traveled cousins. The family sends love and peace. Brenda and Charlie Chapin See you on Friday.

Pat was one of the kindest, gentlest people I've ever met. I worked with Pat at HMP and was grateful for her sunny presence and beautiful heart. My heart goes out to her family and friends.
