Obituary For Patricia Ann Johnson

Patricia (Patty) Ann Johnson passed away on Thursday, September 14, 2023 at Duke University Hospital after a long battle with cancer. She was 68 years old. Patty was born on December 16, 1954, in Sodus, NY to Harold and Thelma Bigelow. She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Johnson; a sister, Kathy Sinaguglia, and a brother, Ron Bigelow (Beverly); a daughter, Rachel Doyle (Benjamin) and a son, Matthew (Ashley) Johnson; grandchildren Eli and Brooke Doyle, and Brielle and Reid Johnson.

Patty was married to the love of her life, Ken for 43 years. Patty grew up in Williamson, NY. She attended Baptist Bible College in Scranton, PA to achieve a teaching certificate. Patty began her teaching career at Hackensack Christian School in Hackensack, NJ where she attended church, where she also met Ken. After moving to Florida, Patty was a beloved teacher at Lakeland Christian School in Lakeland, FL for over 20 years. After moving to Raleigh, NC, she worked as a para at Abbotts Creek Elementary School. She also tutored children and loved helping children to learn.

Patty had accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior as a child and serving Him was the great joy of her life. She loved being a wife, mother, and grandmother doing fun things with her children and grandchildren. She and Ken also enjoyed supporting a child through Compassion International. Patty was a wonderful cook and baker, often sharing the fruit of her labors with friends. She was an encouragement to many as she was active in the Heritage Baptist Church in Lakeland, FL and in Summit Church (Capitol Hills Campus) after moving to Raleigh, NC where she was an active member of the Recharge Women’s Group.

The family will hold visitation hours on Saturday, September 23, 2023, beginning at 2:00 pm at Summit Church Capitol Hills Campus followed by a funeral at 3:30 pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family would gratefully accept donations toward the cost of Patty’s husband Ken’s long-term care.
