Obituary For Pamala June Black
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Pamala Black on Sunday, March 16, 2025. Pam was a devoted mother, cherished grandmother, and beloved friend who lived a life of love, strength, and resilience.
Born in Cortland, Ohio on April 14, 1960, Pam faced life's challenges with unwavering determination. She overcame hardships with grit and perseverance, always putting her family first. October 23, 1982 she married her high school sweetheart and soulmate, Ed Black, and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and adventure. Though she lost a part of herself when Ed passed five years ago, we find comfort in knowing they are now reunited.
Pam was a mother of two and a proud grandmother of nine, taking an active role in raising not only her children but also three of her grandchildren. She was an adventurous, fun-loving grandma, always up for building forts, going on nature walks, cheering at sports games, and a trip to Disney.
A fiercely independent and strong-willed woman, Pam was known for her feisty spirit, generous heart, and unwavering empathy. She adored animals, particularly her beloved dogs and cats, and found joy in watching hummingbirds, deer, and cardinals—especially the one she believed was a sign from Ed.
In her later years, Pam moved to North Carolina to be with her family, sharing special moments of laughter, love, and everyday life. Though her health declined, her spirit remained unbreakable, and her love for her family never wavered.
Pam was preceded in death by her husband, Ed Black, and her parents, Merle Smith, Sr. and Bonnie Smith and one grandchild, Bradley Black. She is survived by her siblings Merle Smith, Jr., Steve Smith, and Barbara Smith as well as her children, Lisa Smith Henson and Edward Heinz Black, her grandchildren, Damien Black, Jeremy Black, Grant Herring, Grier Herring, Griffin Herring, Izzabella Black, Roslyn Henson and Cameron Henson, and many dear friends and extended family members who will forever cherish her memory.
A celebration of Pam’s life will be held at a later time at the family home in Raleigh, NC. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her honor to the ASPCA or your local animal shelter or rescue group.
Pam's strength, love, and laughter will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
