Paisley Cookson, of Wilmington NC, passed away Monday at Vidant Hospital in Greenville, NC.

Paisley is survived by both of her parents, Andrew & Lauren Cookson of Raleigh and Shirley & Robert Register of Holly Springs along with five precious siblings: Chloe, Keira, Lucy Cookson, Carson and Cassidy Register. Paisley is also survived by her grandparents, Agnes Cookson and Dennis and Evelyn Hopkins. A recent graduate of ECU, she was fiercely loved and admired by countless people.

Her giving spirit, her laughter and her countless words of love, encouragement, support. and determination have left a beautiful legacy. All who knew her have been armed with her essence, her memories and the light that was seen in her eyes. Paisley was passionate about her three role models, Jane Goodall, Hillary Clinton, and Beyonce. She cared for the homeless, both people and cats. To honor Paisley is to remember her. Go out into the world, stand up for your convictions, brighten someone's day, be thoughtful and tell those you love how much they mean to you. In this way, we can attempt to keep this spirit alive and well. Come and Dance with me!

My sincerest condolences for Paisley and her family. I can only imagine how difficult a time this is for her family and friends. When my mother passed away last year, words from the Bible, such as the ones at John 8:40-56 and Job 14:14, 15. I hope that Paisley's family and friends can read those words and find some comfort, especially those same events mentioned in those verses will happen again in the near future. Take care.

I met Paisley as a student in my class. For me, she was the "bright light" in our classroom. She was a thoughtful contributor to class discussions. You might think that always happens in college classrooms, but it doesn't. So, I expressed to her that I was grateful for her active participation. We had a few conversations after class when I was able to learn a bit more about her and I was impressed. I send my sincere condolences to her family and friends. Dr. Powers ECU, Department of Sociology
