Obituary For Norleen Grace Henderson
Norleen Grace Henderson (Geschwindt) passed away peacefully on her birthday December 29th at Brookshire Nursing Home in Hillsborough after an extended illness. She was preceded in death by her husband Richard Henderson. Norleen is survived by her beloved daughter, Christine Lynn Jensen and husband Art Jensen, 4 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, sisters Joyce Remick of Pittsboro, North Carolina and Joanne Estes of Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
Working as a legal secretary and legal assistant specializing in estate planning and probate law in Southern California for 33 years, she enjoyed a full life in Valley Center, San Diego County, California raising her daughter Christine, enjoying her career and raising an aviary of exotic birds. Norleen was born in Youngstown, Ohio on December 29, 1939 and moved to San Diego, California at a very young age. She always enjoyed visiting her sisters and eventually joined them in North Carolina. The three of them enjoyed many adventures but her favorite was to the North Carolina Blue Ridge mountains where her sister had a mountain home.
She resided at Carolina Springs Apartments since 2007 and was an active resident there. She loved her many friends, enjoyed the library, a knitting group, playing Mahjong, was an active supporter of the armed troops through the Carolina Café, and enjoyed the companionship of her beloved dog Abby.
A memorial celebration of her life will be held at the Pine Forest Memorial Gardens, 770 Stadium Drive, Wake Forest, NC, Lot 50A Renewal Section at 12:30 pm Saturday, January 7th. This is an outdoor event and the path to Norleen’s site can be challenging for some. For those that cannot attend this service, there will be a special remembrance for her on Friday January 6th at 3pm in the Bird Room Hall 200 & Reception in the Dining Room Hall 100 at Brookshire Nursing Home 300 Meadowlands Drive, Hillsborough. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the National Ataxia Foundation, 2600 Fernbrook Lane, Suite 119 • Minneapolis, MN.
