Nellie (Eilishe) Roberts Mahoney was born in Rosslevan near Ennis Ireland, county Clare on April 4, 1930. She was the 3rd oldest of 11 children born to Christopher Anthony Roberts and Louise Teresa Mee Roberts (of Mayo). After her primary education she went to London and studied for her RN at Mile End Hospital in London receiving her RN in 1952. She then returned to Ireland to work and soon decided to follow her older sister to New York where she worked at Beth Israel hospital in Obstetrics and then as Head nurse in the recovery room. Through family, she met Thomas John "Jack" Mahoney of New York on a blind date. They fell in love and married in 1958. While living in Manhattan they had three children and in 1965 they moved the growing family to Scarsdale New York. Then in 1977 they moved to Leewood Kansas followed shortly by a return to the East in 1981 to Greenwich Connecticut where Jack bought a boat and christened it after his loving wife. In 1982 when her youngest child Tom was graduating high school, Nell went back to nursing for five years. In 1994 they moved again to nearby Stamford. And recently, in 2014, they moved to Atria Oakridge in Raleigh North Carolina to be near family, and far from the snow. Everywhere Nell and Jack moved, Nell made their home a very warm and welcoming place. She always had good friends that she has treasured as part of her life. She was an excellent listener and was always ready to lend a hand.

Her nursing skills were again put to good use in her patient and kind caring of her husband Jack during his long illness. After 58 years together Nellie was widowed on January 22 of this year. She was devastated and missed Jack terribly, but was greatly comforted by the loving care of her family, especially her nearby daughter Ellen, all of her friends near and far and all the staff at Atria Oakridge. Nell went to be with Jack on June 30, 2017. We are sure that her kitchen in heaven is filled with the delicious smells of Irish soda bread and her legendary "rolled chicken”, as well as the sound of her rich laughter.

She is survived by seven of her ten siblings, her three children Deborah Mahoney, Ellen Mahoney Jardine, and Thomas Mahoney their spouses and her much loved six amazing granddaughters - Rebecca, Keara, Jillian, Kait, Lynne and Angela.
