Nancy Propster (McClure) July 28, 1929 - January 21, 2019 Cary

Nancy Propster (McClure) died peacefully on January 21, 2019 with her beloved husband Charles holding her hand. They were married in 1950, soon after Nancy graduated from Stephens College in Columbia, MO. Nancy was born in Mt. Vernon, NY in 1929 to Samuel and Marjorie McClure. She graduated from Westtown School in 1947.

Nancy will always be remembered for her kindness and generosity, and for her beautiful smile that could light up a room. She and Charles raised five children and moved several times before settling in Chapel Hill, NC for 20 years, where Nancy was very active in women's civic organizations and the Lake Forest Garden Club. Nancy and Chuck lived an active retirement in Palm Coast, FL for 20 years and then returned to the Triangle area. Nancy was an avid and accomplished gardener who could transform her yard into a beautiful garden in any of the variety of climates she lived in. She also loved all creatures great and small, and she was a soft touch to her children's pleas to own a variety of animals-dogs, cats, gerbils, fish, turtles, etc., one time even a baby chicken (very briefly!).

Nancy loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, nieces, and grandnieces/nephews, who will all miss her loving and kind nature. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents; her wonderful sister, Cynthia Howard (McClure); and her beloved grandson, Thomas Valerio. She is survived by her ever-adoring husband, Charles Propster; her children, Robert Propster, William Propster (Agnes), Pamela Umstead (Kevin), Margaret Propster, and Cynthia Valerio (Benigno); and her grandchildren, Sean, Peter, Jennifer, Kimberly, Emily, and Kaila.
