Nancy and I met shortly after she graduated from UNC-Greensboro when she came to work at NC State in Student Affairs. She was the first twin that I had ever known and we became good work friends. My husband Herb and I are heartbroken that she has left us, but we know that she is in a wonderful place and we will see each other again some day. Our hearts go out to all of her loving family. There are simply no words to describe the sadness and loss they must feel. Please know that our thoughts are with you. Kathy Council

Nancy was such a special friend, a real blessing in my life. She would call me after work while she was walking ( I had moved to Tulsa,Ok. I looked forward to those calls. I worked in the pre school at the church and she worked in the church office when I lived in Raleigh . She would often bring me a loaf of homemade bread her twin sister Libby sent me. She was the most dedicated christian Ihave ever known. My prayers are with the family. Thank you for keeping in touch with me.

I have such wonderful memories of Nancy and they all include that gorgeous smile. She and Buddy were so devoted to each other and their boys--an awesome family. May God protect her loved ones on earth as she praises her Father in Heaven.

On a nice early summer day in 1984, we moved from a small town, Lynchburg, Virginia to the Thorpshire Farm subdivision in Raleigh, North Carolina. We were new to Raleigh and North Carolina. Not knowing what the neighborhood was like concerned us, particularly for our one and half years old daughter, Shin-Yi. Early the very next morning after the moving truck was gone, Through the back window I saw a lady holding a toddler boys hand. Apparently, they were taking the morning walk in their backyard. Jubilation! Shin-Yi could have a potential friend very close by. About an hour later, our doorbell rang. Here came the lady, the toddler, and a gentleman. They welcome us to the neighborhood with a basket of homemade muffins baked that morning, fresh and warm! They also offered us help should we needed anything. We heard of the Southern Hospitality. Now we experienced it firsthand! What a wonderful way to start our friendship with Nancy, Buddy and the Pate family. It is interesting that their two sons, Michael and David, are at the same age as our two daughters, Shin-Yi and Shin-Ping. They pretty much went to the same schools and kind of growing up together. Nancy, you demonstrated to us that not only we moved into the right neighborhood but were actually living in Mister Rogers Neighborhood. Thank you so much! We take comfort in knowing that you are now in a peaceful neighborhood. We miss you though! Huei-Chen Lee, Ich-Kien Lao - March 29, 2019
