Obituary For Myrtle "Mert" Miller Ross

Myrtle “Mert” Miller Ross, 86, of Raleigh, NC passed away on August 30, 2021. She was born in Newton, Iowa on September 7, 1934, to Mr. and Mrs. Ervin and Rocene Miller. Mert received a Master of Science degree in Education. She taught in Wake County, Fairfax County, VA, and Texas public schools for over thirty-five years.

In addition to her love for teaching, Mert, was a founding member of the Lake Gaston Piecemakers quilting guild, a member of Basics and Beginners & Sew Blessed Quilting groups, a Carolina Hurricanes fan, and a devout Christian woman who regularly attended Prospect United Methodist church. She was the greatest Mother, Mom and Mimi ever to her entire extended family. She was happiest teaching a quilting group in her home. Mimi willingly shared her gift to teach, but quilting was her favorite. She donated 1000’s of hours creating lap quilts for vets, coasters and donation quilts for many charities. In the summer, she helped teach sewing to the next generation at the John 3:16 center. You may have seen her during parades in Littleton making the young people smile by being “FlutterBy” the clown. She loved to juggle and often showed it by standing on a picnic table bench and juggling at the same time!

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Harry Ross and son, Kent Ross. Her life will forever be cherished in the lives of her children, Scott Ross (Debbie), Lori Grannan (Rick), and Marty Ross (Lisa); grandchildren, Alexis, Nick, CJ, Justin, Cameron, Jared, and Jack; great-grandchildren, Gage, Schuylar, Lincoln, Amelie, and Everly (Buttercup); and one brother, Norman Miller.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 23, 2021, at 11:00 AM, Prospect United Methodist Church, Ebony, VA. Please bring an item that Mert helped create so we can fill the Church with color and beauty and surround her with love.

Mert was a big believer in supporting first responder and military charities where most of the donation directly benefits the recipients. Please donate to The Towers to Tunnels Foundation , The Gary Sinise Foundation, or another worthy charity in lieu of flowers.
