Obituary For Millie Ann Wiseman

Millie Ann Garland Wiseman, 81, wife of the late Robert Noyles Wiseman, went to her heavenly home on May 21, 2021. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and advisor, Millie was a native of Avery County. She was the daughter of the late Zack Garland and Villa Biggs Garland. Graduating from Newland High School in 1958, she kept in good contact with her classmates and enjoyed the summer reunions. She graduated from Crossnore Business School in 1959. She served as Registrar for Lees-McRae College for 33 years mentoring and advising students on their academic paths, careers, and life journeys. She had a gift of offering advice, assistance and her loving hugs. Students from those three decades at Lees-McRae still refer to her as “Momma Millie”. She was committed, dedicated, and made sure the students knew she would never give up on them. Because of her selfless acts of kindness, she was honored by the North Carolina State Legislature for dedication and support of Lees-McRae College and a flag was flown in her honor! She also received an Honorary Associate of Arts Degree from Lees-McRae class of 1989. Millie is survived by her daughter Robin Wiseman Evans and son-in-law John Evans; grandsons, Andrew Evans, Austin Evans, and Johnny Evans of Cary, NC; and her niece, Melanie Ware (Dave Young) of Hancock, SD. She was preceded in death by her sister, Brenda Garland Ware. She was a second mother to many including Stephen Smith and Erick Smithwick. The Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 10, 2021 at 2:00pm at Walnut Grove Church, Newland, NC. Interment will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery.
