Obituary For Michael James Scharville
Mike Scharville died peacefully on May 14, 2018 in Raleigh, NC at the age of 76.
He was born July 5, 1941 in Farrell, PA. He was the middle child of James and Helen Scharville of Farrell, PA. He graduated from Farrell High School in Farrell, PA in 1960. He and his wife Pat were married on June 3, 1961 at St. Adalbert’s Church.
He is survived by his wife, Pat Scharville, of Raleigh, NC; son Michael (Shark) Scharville Jr. and wife Patty, of Raleigh, NC, daughter Cyndi Eck and husband Jim of Knightdale, NC; grandchildren Michael (Gupper) Scharville III and wife Abby, of Raleigh NC, and Thomas (TJ) Scharville of Raleigh, NC; great-grandchild, Theo Scharville. He is also survived by his brother Jim Scharville and wife Pat, of Poland, OH; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his brother Paul Scharville of Orangeville, OH
He was a witty and big-hearted man that was also a loving son, husband, father, grandfather (pawka), and great-grandfather. He worked at the Sharon Steel Mill in Farrell, PA for over 25 years before moving to North Carolina in 1993. In North Carolina, he worked for Fluor Daniels corporation before happily retiring. Outside of work, he was heavily involved in Boy Scouts as commissioner and other capacities of the district in Sharon, PA. He was awarded the Silver Beaver Award which is given to those who implement the Scouting program and perform community service through hard work, self-sacrifice, dedication, and many years of service; it is given to those who not seek it. He also received the George Meany AFL-CIO Award and St. George Emblem from scouts. He was also an avid collector of Boy Scouts badges and other scouts’ memorabilia. He was president of Little League in Sharon, PA for many years. He was also passionate about Hallmark Christmas ornaments and spent his weekends after retiring at flea markets adding to his collection.
A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, May 19, 2018 at the Raleigh Elks Lodge at 5538 Lead Mine Rd, Raleigh, NC 27612 at 4PM with a visitation beginning at 2PM. Flowers will be accepted, but in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center of Duke Hospital. https://tischbraintumorcenter.duke.edu/
The family extends special thanks to the staff at Duke Hospital and the staff of The Oaks at Whitaker Glen-Mayview rehabilitation facility.
