Obituary For Michael Foster Brown

Michael Foster Brown never stopped making things. In the wake of his death on Thursday, July 25, 2019 we will be sifting through the terabytes of his works for years to come. He departed from WakeMed hospital in Raleigh due to complications from multiple sclerosis. He was surrounded, as he’d always been, by family. He is survived by an incredibly strong wife, Angela; and fiercely capable son, Machaon and a sincere and devoted stepson, Evan. In every way that they helped to shape him into the incredible man he was, he too shaped them. He helped them, taught them, and prepared them for everything.

Michael, 51, was born in Valdosta, Georgia, the youngest of four children and son of Bill and Dorothy Brown. There is no doubt he inherited his intense entrepreneurial spirit from this power duo. Growing up, he did everything you wished you’d done. He worked everywhere, he wrote, he designed, and before the progression of his MS, he had a massive portfolio of hand drawn artwork and murals to top-off his resume. He taught those close to him that “everyone, no matter who they are, have something they can teach you,” and he set out to collect all the knowledge he could. He married Angela McKown in August 2003.

Only a person with knowledge so great and interests so vast could ever hope to be as funny as Mike was. It must have been a heavy cross to bare, being that funny, but he never slacked.

Michael was raised surrounded by music. He was a musician, a vocalist, but also an artist, a writer and inventor. Though his interests spread far and wide, he took a particular interest in the possibilities of emergent technologies and worked for several companies in varying industries, as well as forming his own companies-- Valcis and IncogAR, to pioneer and test the limits of such technologies. This pursuit would eventually lead him from Georgia to Raleigh, North Carolina, where is son, Machaon was born in 2007.

Michael was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Brown. Michael is survived by his spouse, Angela; son, Machaon; and step-son, Evan Bennett. His father, William M. Brown Sr.; siblings Cindy (Tom) Best, Bill (Debra) Brown Jr. and Dotty Jo (Robby) Davis also survive Michael. He was the fun and mischievous uncle to 10 nieces and nephews who will never forget him.

The family plans to hold a memorial service for Michael on Saturday, August 10, 2019 at Music Funeral Home in Valdosta, GA. at 10 a.m.
