It has been my pleasure and honor to know Mike and his family for many years through the YMCA. Mike served in the Y lobby, giving stickers and hugs to a generation of children who loved him dearly. He always had a laugh and a smile and will be missed by so many, including me. Laurie Johnson

Lit a candle in memory of Michael Alan Muhlhammer

My son Johnny and I met Mike through his mother, Chris. Chris and I got to know each other well, sharing that we each had a son with disabilities. My son used to go to Mike's house for bible study and fellowship. I will always remember Mike's wonderful, kind spirit, love of the Lord, his dogs, friends and family. I have some wonderful pictures of Mike with my son at a few outings they were on over the years. Mike's loving, gentle spirit was contagious, and brought a smile to our face. We came to know Michael when he was a young boy since he and his family attended our church in St. Marys, PA. He always had great enthusiasm in whatever project, program or activity in which he was involved. He looked sharp in his Royal Ranger uniform and had a great zeal for the outdoors, camp-outs and scouting activities. We lost touch for a while after he and his family moved to NC, but it didn't take too long before we reconnected. So much had changed in Mike's life following the discovery of his brain tumor and surgery that followed. Though communicating with him often required the assistance of his mother, Chris, or his sister, Katie, his expression of joyful enthusiasm while connecting eye to eye, heart to heart was always present. It was very difficult for Mike to lose his devoted mother, but he had the loving and loyal support of Katie, which kept him going and knowing that he would always be in good hands. Our hearts are warmed by knowing that he touched so many lives, both young and old, as he continued to love Christ and others in so many ways. We are upholding Katie and her family in prayer during this difficult time. I met Mike, Mom Chris and Sister Katie the summer of 2012. Mike was excited that I liked beef. I remember thinking, What a happy guy! With Mike, I would live in the moment. Nothing else mattered. And, thats how it should be. His thoughtfulness, humility, accommodation and fun spirit were amazing. He helped me grow as a person. Book reading, pictures, cards, games, TV (Andy Griffith, Dick van Dyke, and favorite Gunsmoke in particular), walks, identifying sounds, interaction with family and G-man and Miss Kitty, prayer, dinner time so many things will spark happy thoughts forever. We had a lot of fun. Sad I will not be able to visit with Mike, he will be forever in my mind and heart. God bless you, Katie. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Carol Baverstock

I met Mike Spring of 2017. He and I would hang out from time to time as Id be at his house. He always had a bright spirit and smile when we were together. There were plenty of days I looked forward to seeing Mike as he was a highlight of a stressful and busy day. Ill miss our days of Andy Griffith, watching news or card games. We got along great and allowed me to share in his life for over a year and for that Im truly grateful. Ill miss you buddy and love you! Marcus Kearsey

I pray that the Muhlhammers will know the same love, care, and peace that they showered upon our family when we lost our beloved Karin Joy. Mike was a wonderful person. I'm glad I have had the privilege to know him and be blessed and edified by his life. He also taught me to enjoy hot dogs for breakfast:) and take the proper rain gear for camping. I met Mike and the Muhlhammer clan in 2015 and enjoyed everyday life with him for almost two years. Everyday was filled with so much joy and laughter. Mike had a unique way of turning phrases that could make anyone double over in stitches; his humor and kindness was absolutely contagious. One of Mikes favorite songs was Home Free, which he often requested as the DJ in my car on the way to his job at the Y. I asked Mike once why it was such a favorite of his, and he responded as if it were the most obvious thing in the world: I want to see Jesus. Oh, the joy he has being told Well done, by the Savior he loves. While I am overjoyed that he has entered into gates of splendor, I will miss him enormously and have mounds of memories stored away for rainy days to come. All of my love to my sweet friend Katie and to those who loved him so dearly.

I had the pleasure of working with Mike for the last year and a half before he moved to his group home. Mike was always happy when I showed up at his house. He was so cheerful and we had the best time joking and laughing around throughout the day. It was so nice to be able to listen to his daily encouragements with him as we ate breakfast together. I will greatly miss him and his loving spirit. I'm so happy for him as well, he noe has no more pain, no more restrictions and can run and be near his mother and God. I had the honor to hire and work with Mike at the A E Finley YMCA. His smile and positive attitude was so infectious to all that crossed his path. He loved life and people. You could never have a bad day when Mike was there. Heaven has gain a true angel and I cannot wait to see him again.
