Obituary For Mary Sudik

Mary (Marie) Sudik of Raleigh, N.C., previously of Ambridge, PA. passed away on Friday, March 25, 2022, at the age of 96. Born Mary Pihonsky in Leetsdale PA, to the late Michael and Elizabeth Pihonsky. Mary was one of five children. She graduated from Leetsdale High School in 1944 and married her husband in 1946. Mary worked alongside her husband as bookkeeper for their business, Motive Parts Co. of Ambridge for 30 years. Mary loved life and lived it to the fullest up until the end, called to the Lord just one day after her 96th birthday.

Mary had many passions in life, from cantoring at St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church in Ambridge to cheering on her beloved Steelers and Pirates. She enjoyed playing golf (with a hole-in-one as her claim to fame) as well as the occasional one-arm bandit. Mary loved to cook and bake (her chocolate chip cookies are legendary) for family and friends.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Andrew, and her beloved granddaughter, Theresa. She is survived by her son, Michael (Maura) Sudik of Youngsville, NC; daughter, Patricia (Peter) Balkovec of Gibsonia, PA; granddaughters, Andrea (Michael) Kakuk of Indian Trail, NC and Lynn (Alex) Keene of Huntersville, NC.; great-granddaughters, Veronica and Theresa Kakuk; niece, Carol Beck of Ambridge who looked after her on many occasions; as well as numerous nieces and nephews that were all special to her.

Very sad to hear the passing of our dear aunt. She was such a character! One day I called her and she said how happy she was to hear from me but she had to go to bingo early to get a good seat!!! She will be missed!
