Obituary For Mary Kay Wenhart

Mary Kathryn Wenhart (Jan 31, 1946 - May 18, 2025)

Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: “Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.” ~ Proverbs 31:28-29

Mary Kay passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday May 18, 2025. She lived her life in a Proverbs 31 manner, loving God and her family. While we will miss her deeply, we rejoice that she and her beloved husband, John, our dad, are reunited in God’s Kingdom.

Mary Kay was born and raised in Akron, Ohio. She met and married her high school sweetheart, John, and they moved to Raleigh, NC in 1976, where they lovingly raised our family. Mary Kay loved being a stay at home mom and raising her 3 children. As the children aged, Mary Kay entered the workforce with CP&L/Progress Energy in the Accounting Department. She retired and soon resumed working in accounting with Springmoor Assisted Living, and retired a second time to devote her remaining years to John. Throughout all this time, Mary Kay always knew that her first duty was to her family and she lived that until her death this past Sunday.

She tirelessly served God and family. She always managed to be at the top of her field in work too. Mary Kay enjoyed playing golf, having family and friends game nights, and Bible study. What truly made Mary Kay happy though was her 60 year marriage to John, her 3 kids, 4 grandkids, 7 great grandkids, and of course her furry children (we are not allowed to call them dogs). Mom made every sacrifice for her family to make sure there were smiles on faces and food in their stomachs.

Mary Kay is preceded in death by her husband John, her parents Margaret and Robert Stewart, and brother Jim Stewart. She is survived by daughter Michelle Holcomb and husband Kevin of Raleigh, son Mike and wife Beth of Raleigh, son Jeff of Southport NC, grandchildren Kelly Guzouskis and husband Ryan of Willow Spring NC, Tucker Cummings and wife Carley of Hutto TX, Elizabeth Taylor and husband Ben of Wilmington NC, Sydney Flynt and husband Matt of Browns Summit NC, and great-grandchildren Charlie, Hadley, and Blakely Guzouskis, Amelia and Lucas Flynt, Avery Layne Taylor, and Quinn Cummings. She is also survived by her brother Bill and his wife Elaine of Columbus, OH.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at 2:00pm, at Shiloh Baptist Church, 3414 North Shiloh Road, Garner NC. A reception will be held at the church immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, Mary Kay wishes for donations to be made to Tunnels to Towers Foundation or the MS Society.

May Kay’s love for her family will always be remembered and cherished. We will all miss you, but we know you and dad are together as one again. For the part you played in so many lives, God welcomes you with open arms saying, “Well done my good and faithful servant.”
