Obituary For Marti Greene Hicks

MARTHA GREENE HICKS (MARTI), 83, of Flamingo Drive, Florida, passed away May 13, 2020, in Raleigh, North Carolina, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Beckley, West Virginia, she moved to Central Florida in 1960 with her husband Rondal Wayne Hicks (Ron). Mrs. Hicks, a retired federal government employee, served as a Quality Assurance Representative for the Department of Defense. Marti took great pride in her diligent work which supported all US military troops.

A two-decade member of the Winter Park Presbyterian Church in Winter Park, Florida, Marti served as a Deacon for many years and loyally devoted her time on the Care and Compassion Committee. Marti also volunteered in the Orlando community as a board member and shop volunteer at the Winter Park Benefit Shop and a docent for the Leu House Museum at Harry P. Leu Gardens. She enjoyed giving back to the Central Florida community, her home for the past 60 years.

She is survived by daughters, Ronda Hicks Hornbeck of Raleigh and Karen Gail McKee of Windermere; sons-in-law, G. John Hornbeck and Dann L. McKee; brothers, Henry C. Peraldo and Homer Warden (Janet); sister, Sharon Matherly (John); grandchildren, William B. Hornbeck, Gregory W. Hornbeck and Lindsay G. McKee. In addition to parents, Henry E. Peraldo and Bessie Warden, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ron Hicks, and sister-in-law, Shirley Peraldo.

Honoring Marti’s wishes, a family interment service will take place at the National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida, where she will be laid to rest alongside her loving husband. The family hopes to gather for a memorial in Orlando/Winter Park when it is safe to come together and celebrate Marti’s joyful, fulfilled life.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift to Leu Gardens toward a garden bench: www.leugardens.org/tributes-gifts . Notate "In Memory of Marti Hicks" on the form. Marti’s legacy as a historic house guide was passed on to her grandsons, who proudly became trained docents as well. Marti’s bench will be located by the Leu House Museum, a place she held dear.

I was very sorry to hear of the passing of Aunt Marti. I rejoice with her family knowing she now lives with our Lord. I have many happy memories of time spent with her and Uncle Ronny. I'm glad they are reunited in Heaven with each other and other family members including my mom and grandmother. Prayers for Ronda and family and Karen and family for comfort and peace in the days ahead. Until we see each other again one glorious day may you rest in the arms of Jesus. Love you Aunt Mart :heartpulse::bouquet:
