Martha Allen (Combs) Elkins of Raleigh peacefully passed away on Sunday, April 30, 2023, in her home. She had just turned 91 Years old.

Martha, “Tut” was a lifelong resident of Raleigh. She attended St. Mary’s School, earning a degree in Education from Mary Washington College. She taught at Emma Conn School. Martha was an accomplished musician and artist, learning to play classical guitar as well as many other instruments and created many beautiful paintings. In her younger years Martha rode her own Harley Davidson motorcycles and absolutely loved playing golf. Her golfing world was an absolute joy to her, and her collection of golf memorabilia certainly showed her love of the game. Martha’s love for animals was beyond reproach, Martha fed the birds, the deer, the squirrels, the chipmunks and any other animal that wandered into her yard daily and would watch them from her window as they enjoyed her generosity. Above all Martha’s love for God and the Bible was her true love in life, and she lived in God’s word.

Martha is survived by her sister, Isabel (Combs) Stuebe, five nieces and nephews, thirteen great nieces and nephews, and her loving neighbors of 28 years, Jim and Carie Scott.

She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph G. Elkins Jr., her parents Dr. Joseph J. and Isabel M. Combs of Raleigh and her brother, Dr. Joseph J. Combs, Jr. of Rochester, MN.

Martha lived next door to my parents, Mary and Bill Knapp for 25 years before they went to assisted living. Martha was a good neighbor to them and they enjoyed her company. Heaven received another Angel. Ellen Knapp Wood
