Marjorie Lois Caveness Hales, age 85, died January 24, 2012 at her home in Raleigh, NC. Marjorie was born Oct. 7, 1926 to Hugh Lynn and Nellie Cole Caveness. She grew up in Raleigh, attended Fred Olds Elementary and Needham Broughton High schools, and was graduated from Duke University in the class of 1947. She was employed with the Zoology Department at NCSU before becoming a stay-at-home mom for her children. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 53 years William M. Hales, her son John Robert Hales, and her sisters Shirley C. Newberry and Nancy C. Steelman. She is survived by her sons W. Craige Hales (Laura) and Kevin J. Hales (Claudia) and her daughter Bonnie Lynn H. Reyes (Adolfo); grandchildren Jennifer, Robin, Angela, and Alex Hales, and Paula and Daniel Reyes; sister Betty Jean Edens (John). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Wake County or to Raleigh Rescue Mission.
