Obituary For Marjorie Jane Reid
Marjorie Jane Skene Reid born in New Britain, CT on July 25, 1923 died on December 9,2020 after a week-long battle with Covid-19.
Known to her family and friends as Marjie, she leaves her daughter, Patricia Reid; three grandchildren, Clare Huerta of Richmond, VA, Ted Barnett, and Margaret Barnett both of Raleigh; and one great grandchild, Catherine Huerta.
In 1944, Marjorie graduated from New Britain General Hospital Nursing School. Her career as a Registered Nurse encompassed practice in a doctor’s office, industrial nurse, the Red Cross, and to hospitals across the country. She liked to say she was happiest on the pediatric floor of Putnam Community Hospital, Palatka, Florida. After retiring, she took care of her husband, Franklyn Reid until his death on Dec. 16, 1989.
In 1992 Marjorie moved to North Carolina to live with her daughter’s family in Raleigh. She loved her three grandchildren most dearly and helped raise them from pre-K into adulthood.
With her sparkling, hazel eyes and beautiful smile, Marjie drew people to her. No one was a stranger as she made friends easily, sharing her enthusiasm for life and all God’s creatures with everyone she encountered. She was blessed with a happy disposition and made people laugh often. For many years she served the Catholic Golden Agers social group and was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.
Thank you for being the best mother, grandmother, caregiver, Registered Nurse, animal lover, friend and confidante anyone could hope for. We will always remember how you kept alive your sense of childlike wonder, your strong faith in God and your open, huge, loving heart. We will love you forever, Dearest Mom/Gran/GG.
Our family thanks Duke University Hospital, Dr. Gallagher and the team of healthcare workers who supported Mom. We are so very grateful for your sacrifices.
Memorial gifts may be sent to Marjorie Reid’s favorite charity: St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital
