Marie Miller Burton Williams, 98, passed away Monday, November 26, 2018. Marie was born December 28, 1919, to E. M. and Maude Medlin Miller in Concord, North Carolina. She moved to Winston-Salem around 1928 where she went to Fairview School and later graduated from North High School (now Hanes) in 1936.

Soon after graduating high school, Marie married H. A. Burton in 1937. They had three sons who survive her: Harold (Jane) of Fuquay-Varina; Bill (Ann) of Raleigh; and Wayne (Bennie) of Pilot Mountain.

After all three of her sons started school, Marie began working at South Park School in 1952. She ended her working career in the Central Office of the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System after 28 years, retiring in July of 1980. Marie moved to Mt. Airy in 1988 and moved again to Raleigh in 2004.

Marie was the oldest of six children and is survived by one sister, Edith Patterson of Williamsburg, VA; one sister-in-law, Mary Virginia Miller of Suffolk, VA; four granddaughters: Teresa Drian of Clayton; Kellie Fessler (Grant) of Apex; Adriane Burton of Austin, TX; and Casie Burton of Mooresville, NC; four great grandsons; two great granddaughters; one very special niece, Barbara Hughes of Valrico, FL; and many other nieces and nephews.

Marie was preceded in death by her first husband of forty- seven years, H.A. Burton, her parents, one sister and two brothers. Also, she was preceded in death by her second husband of 16 years, Wally Williams.

The family will receive friends at Renaissance Funeral Home of Raleigh on Thursday, November 29, 2018 at 1 PM with a service at 2:00 p.m.

A graveside service will be held at Forsyth Memorial Park, 3771 Yadkinville Road in Winston-Salem on Friday, November 30, 2018 at 11:00a.m.

The family would like to thank Donna Smith, the hospice nurse who helped comfort Marie in her last few weeks, as well as the wonderful staff and caregivers at North Hills Sunrise Assisted Living in Raleigh for their love and support.
