Obituary For Marie Mameli
Marie Mameli was born in Brooklyn, NY on January 14, 1944. As an adult, she raised her two children, Ann-Marie Victoria and Kenneth, in Massapequa Park, Long Island. She worked as an office manager in the dental field, working hard as a single mother to provide her children with everything they needed. She moved to Albuquerque, NM in 1994 with her then-young adult children, then continued her travels west several years later in 2004 when she moved to San Diego, CA to be near her daughter, who’d relocated there prior. In 2017, she moved back to the east coast to Garner, NC to be near her daughter and her new family, with her son and his family joining them this past August. Marie was overjoyed to have her family together again. No matter where she called home, Marie’s great love of dancing and country music brought many friends into Marie’s life. A social butterfly, she made friends wherever she went, and a stranger was just a friend she hadn’t yet made. She had her favorite seat at the Renegade, where she spent many evenings during the week dancing and socializing in San Diego. As a consummate card player, she developed many friends here in NC during her days spent at the Garner Senior Center where she played card games almost daily. Marie was a kind, funny, and generous person, who often placed others’ needs above her own. She had a quiet faith with deep roots and valued her relationships with God, family and her friends above all else. She entered into eternity on October 16, 2018. Marie leaves behind her daughter Ann-Marie Victoria (Mike) Foley, her Son Kenneth (Sarah) Speier, her grandchildren Autumn Speier, Matthew Foley, Marissa Foley, and Mike Foley Jr., as well as her brother Jack Mameli and mother Ann Mameli. She also leaves many extended family members and cherished friends. The family would like to acknowledge and thank the CICU staff at UNC Rex Hospital who became an extension of our family over the last month. They also wish to thank the community of Christ Baptist for their support, their prayers, and the meals/tokens provided in our time of sorrow. We feel the love of Christ as you have been his hands and feet these past several weeks.
