Obituary For Maria Theresa Sedore

Maria Theresa Sedore (Conza) died February 19, 2018 surrounded by her loving family.

Maria was born in Ozone Park New York, to the late Salvatore Conza and Giovannina Giordano Conza. A child of immigrants, she cherished her Italian heritage. As the family historian Maria proudly passed the traditions on to her children and grandchildren.

Maria, an ardent Roman Catholic, was a daily communicant for over 70 years. As a young adult she was a member of the Legion of Mary and the Catholic Career Conference. Maria was a prolific reader who often studied the Papal documents and the writings of the early church fathers.

Maria’s greatest joy was being a mother. She unselfishly devoted her life to her children - acting as both mother and father. Maria’s dinner table was always full of friends and family, especially on homemade Pizza nights. Maria was known as an incredible cook and baker.

Maria raised her young children in North Miami Beach where she was blessed with a group of steadfast friends. In 1978 Maria left her beloved south Florida and returned to New York to seek better opportunities for her youngest son, Joseph, who was born with Down Syndrome.

Maria has instilled in her children a deep faith, a love of family, and a sense of adventure.

Maria is survived by and will be deeply missed by her three sons James Salvatore Sedore (Elise), John Anthony Sedore and Joseph Francis Sedore; one cherished daughter, Janine Mae Sedore; five grandchildren, Matthew ( Christina), Andrew (Trevor), Ayrn, Maria and Joseph; two great-grandchildren, Jonah and Amelia.

There are so many wonderful memories of my mom that I dont know where to begin. She always put us first. Mom will be missed every second of every minute of everyday. My favorite time of day was when we drank our afternoon coffee together - whether it was in our living room or in the parking lot of McDonalds I a busy day. We would talk and she would share the old family stories with me. We never got tired of talking to each other. I take comfort in knowing that she went right into the arms of Our Lady.

I remember as a child, playing with Carmel in Aunt Maria's room while she was away. It intrigued us with it's closet full of grown up, stylish clothes. We'd play office for awhile, then try on her cool outfits although we were probably 7 or 8 years old. We would get scolded when she found her room disturbed, but we knew she would forgive and forget very quickly. Staying with her in her apartment and later at her home was exciting and I do remember her excellent cooking. As time went on, life was not easy for her. Yet her love of family and devotion to God moved her forward. She was kind. She was caring. She was totally devoted to her family and her faith. She was a truly unselfish person who gave herself completely to those she loved. She will be missed by all. Rest in peace. Joann Conza Azzarelli

Aunt Maria always had her priorities in order: Love of God; Love of Family; and Love of the Roman Catholic faith. My wife, Susan, and I are so pleased that Janine insisted on our visit with them this past fall where once again we had the great chance to share good times, old stories, great food, and above all Love together. I am proud to have called her my aunt and pleased to have shared our Conza heritage together. No doubt she is being reunited with all of her family in heaven especially grandma, grandpa, & my dad, too! With great affection & love always to my cousins and their loving mom-Peace! & RIP finally, Maria! Love always! Tony Conza, Jr. St. Petersburg, Florida
