Obituary For Maria del Camino Andrade Anthony
We are sad to announce that our beloved Camino Anthony passed away unexpectedly on February 5, 2024. She was born in Quito, Ecuador to her late parents Dr. Guillermo Andrade and Maria Luisa Nestares Andrade. Camino and her family moved to Raleigh, NC in 1976 where she attended Broughton High School. She went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering at North Carolina State University.
After graduation, Camino joined Northern Telecom where she enjoyed a successful 20-year career in various engineering and management roles. For the past 14 years she worked in software development for Allscripts/Veradigm where she ultimately served as Director of Software Development. She enjoyed working with her team here and abroad, many of whom she had worked with for years.
Camino’s greatest legacy will undoubtedly be her two daughters Marisa and Sofia. Both girls inherited her beauty, tenacity, and athletic prowess. Camino was a gifted athlete who was fierce on the tennis court, and most recently was developing into a talented golfer. She enjoyed spending time with her friends at Raleigh Racquet Club and North Ridge Country Club. Although typically a nervous spectator, Camino loved the many hours spent travelling with her daughters watching junior tennis tournaments throughout the southeast.
With a strong affinity for nature and a love of flowers and plants, Camino took pride every year in turning her deck into a beautiful botanical garden. She loved spending time at their mountain cabin and hiking the trails in Ashe County as well as shopping in West Jefferson and Blowing Rock.
Camino enjoyed telling stories of growing up as the middle child of five children, living in various states and countries before finally settling in Raleigh. First generation to the US, all five children attained college degrees and have been very successful in their various fields. The achievements of her siblings was an enormous source of pride for Camino.
Camino was preceded in death by both parents. She is survived by her loving husband of 31 years, John Anthony - and their two daughters Marisa Anthony and Sofia Anthony. She is also survived by her siblings Luis Andrade (Anne), Luisa Andrade Spivey (Coleman), Juan Andrade and Iziar Andrade. In addition, she leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, in-laws, and other extended family. And everyone knew her favorite child was her four-legged baby, Boone.
There will be a funeral mass honoring the life of Camino on Friday, February 16th at 11:00 am at Saint Francis of Assisi in Raleigh. There will be a visitation with family at 10:00 am prior to the mass. After the funeral service there will be a burial for family members only. There will be a celebration of Camino’s life, open to all friends and family, from 5:00-7:00 pm on the 16th at North Ridge Country Club in Raleigh.
If you would like to pay tribute to Camino’s life, please consider honoring her love of dogs by making a donation to Saving Grace Animals for Adoption (www.savinggracenc.org) or in honor of her mother, the family would appreciate a contribution to The Alzheimer’s Association of Eastern NC (www.alz.org/nc).
