Obituary For Maganlal Raghavjibhai Joshi

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Maganlal Raghavjibhai Joshi. He departed this world on August 20, 2023 at 9:56AM at age 94, leaving behind a tapestry of enduring memories etched in the hearts of those he touched.

Born on October 8, 1928, Magan Dada grew into a man of unwavering principles, dedicated to education for all and equality. He was born in a Brahman Kutum in Dhargani in Saurashtra, Gujarat, India. After his college, he joined the Lok Bharti Sanasura which was dedicated to following Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals and
participating in community work. Since then, as a symbol of his dedication for community work, he has only worn simple cotton white clothes. Married for over 70 years to his beloved wife, Prabhaben Joshi, their union was marked by love and mutual respect. Their marriage was innovative for their time period because it brought together two different castes. They were blessed with five children: Asha, Urmila, Ramchandra, Ila, and Rajendra. His legacy continues through his Wife, children, eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, carrying his values forward.

Magan Dada was a living embodiment of change. He stood as a resolute champion for the uneducated, offering his unwavering support to those susceptible to the clutches of government-led corruption. His reputation as a figure of profound admiration remained beyond dispute. He recognized the transformative power of education and established a school in Gundala, Gujarat, India, with a noble aim: to provide underprivileged children with the tools they needed to break the cycle of poverty and ignorance. He fervently championed the rights of all students, irrespective of their socioeconomic backgrounds or gender. He also exemplified his dedication by generously contributing a substantial portion of his earnings to uplift the marginalized members deemed as “untouchables” within his community. This was one of many efforts he made to abate the societal barrier between “untouchables”
and others.

His kindness, wisdom, and compassion touched countless lives, fostering a community of love and unity. Though he is dearly missed, Magan Dada’s legacy remains a timeless source of inspiration.

Rest in peace, dear Magan Dada. Your light will continue to shine, guiding us toward a better tomorrow. Om Shanti Om.
