Obituary For Madeline Daugherty
Madeline Daugherty, 73, of Garner, NC passed away peacefully on April 5, 2022. She was born August 6, 1948, in Philadelphia, PA to James and Madeline Daugherty. She graduated from Cardinal Dougherty High School and told many stories about her friends and events while she attended Immaculate Conception Grade School and growing up in the rowhouses that surrounded the church.
Madeline was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved sister, Patricia Maguire of Chalfont, PA. Madeline raised her two sons after their father, Wade Turner, passed away in 1987.
She is survived by her lifelong companion, Sheryl Johnson and their fur-children, Abbey and Heath; her sons Michael Turner, and his wife Shelley of Las Vegas, NV; David Turner, and his partner Mandy McDaniel, of Barnesville, GA; brother, James Daugherty of Raleigh, NC; brother-in-law, John Maguire of Chalfont, PA; many nieces and nephews, 6 grandchildren, great nieces and nephews, and a host of cousins and friends.
Madeline loved the beach, travel, and animals. She was always willing to help an injured wild animal, stray dog, or cat. There are many times she would take injured birds, turtles, squirrels, rabbits to various places for care and release back to nature. She had a tradition of honoring loved ones by planting a tree, bush, or flowers. Her yard has many crepe myrtles, azaleas, and flowers that bloom every year as memorials to lost loved ones, both human and four legged. Madeline spent every chance she had at the NC Coast, specifically Surf City, NC. She loved the island life, pink flamingos, and spending time with friends on the screen porch. There are many cherished memories of time spent at “Lot 6 and 4th street.” Madeline loved to travel and enjoyed visiting other parts of the world. Her eyes would light up and she would flash a big smile with any mention of a cruise to somewhere tropical!
Based on her wishes there will not be a visitation or memorial service. An interment ceremony will be held at Historic Oakwood Cemetery, 701 Oakwood Ave, Raleigh, NC 27601 on Friday, May 20 at 11:00am.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Madeline to wildlife or animal rescue program of your choice. Various programs she has supported: Second Chance Pet Adoptions; Creating a Humane Community – SPCA of Wake County; and Saving Wildlife and Wild Places
