Luis Ruben Mendez, 47 of New York, NY, died on August 30, 2019, at New Franklin Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing after a tiring battle with various illnesses as a result of his disability.

Luis went to school within the New York City Public Schools System. He participated in Special Olympics every year and earned a medal for his participation. Luis was unmarried and had no children. He was loved and cherished by his great grandmother, the late Catalina Fernandez; mother, Rosa Estrada; and sister, Rosa Hedrick.

Luis was preceded in death by his father, Luis Mendez, of New York, NY.

He is survived by his mother, Rosa Estrada and sister, Rosa Hedrick. He is also survived by his nephew, cousins and friends.
