Obituary For Louise B. Friedman
Louise Friedman, 98, of Raleigh, North Carolina, and formerly of Carroll, Iowa, died early Wednesday, July 24, 2013, at her home in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Born on October 26, 1914, at Carroll, Iowa, Louise was the daughter of William and Anna (Kruse) Scharfenkamp. She spent her younger years in the Carroll community and attended Saints Peter and Paul School, later graduating from St. Angela Academy. Louise then received a degree in nursing from St. Anthony School of Nursing, graduating in 1935. Upon graduation, she was employed at St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll and later the Carroll Clinic. On August 26, 1940, she married Walter L. Friedman at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Carroll, Iowa. The couple resided in several Midwestern states while Walter was employed with Montgomery Ward Company, and later settled in Rhinelander, Wisconsin. In 1998, Walter and Louise moved to Raleigh, North Carolina. Louise's greatest joys were her faith and her family. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Raleigh, North Carolina and was also a member of the Third Order of St. Francis of Assisi.
Survivors include her children: Brother Paul Friedman, O.S.B., of Esquipulas, Guatemala; Mary Carol (Richard) Williams, of Colorado Springs, CO; Louise Ann (Lawrence) Noonan, of North Easton, MA; Mark (Mary Ruth) Friedman of Wausau, WI; Joan (Jacques) Mistrot, of Raleigh, NC; her daughter-in-law, Kathryn Friedman, of Raleigh, NC; 19 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Carolyn Bernice Majewski, of WI; as well as other extended relatives.
Louise was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter, in 1999; her son, Jerome, in 2013; her sisters: Gertrude Simons, Dora Tyrrell, Anna Engelen, Catherine Anthofer, Mary Simons, Barbara Tigges, and Elizabeth Tigges; her brothers: Herman, William, John, and Joe Scharfenkamp; and two brothers in infancy: Peter and Anthony Scharfenkamp.
A funeral mass for Louise will commence Monday, July 29, 2013, at 1pm at Our Lady of Lourdes R.C. Church. Interment to take place at Iowa.
