Obituary For Linda Jones Cuthrell

Linda Jones Cuthrell, 80 passed peacefully at Transitions Life Care Tuesday morning, April 26, 2016.

A private service will be held Friday April 28, 2016 at 11:00 AM at The Cypress of Raleigh, 8801 Cypress Lakes Drive, Raleigh, NC. Family will receive friends following the service from 11:45am to 1:00pm

She is predeceased by her older sister Nancy Isaacs and brother-in-law Charlie, of Reidsville, NC, and survived by their three sons. Linda is survived by husband Van Cuthrell of Raleigh, daughter Peggy Shufelt, son-in-law Ray Shufelt, granddaughter Fleming Shufelt, of High Point, NC, son Huntley Cuthrell, daughter-in-law Aimee Cuthrell, granddaughter Shannon Cuthrell, and grandson Bradford Cuthrell, of Cary, NC. Linda is also survived by her twin sister, Peggy Worstell, and brother-in-law Gayl Worstell, of Florida, and their four sons.

Born in Toronto, Canada, Linda was the daughter of the late Cynthia and Harvey Jones and lived her childhood years in Melrose NY. Linda graduated from Sewanaka High School and then attended Guilford College for two years, later graduating with a BS in Spanish from NC Wesleyan College.

Linda and her family lived in Murfreesboro from 1958-1991, moving to Raleigh in 1991 where they have resided since. They were members of Murfreesboro Baptist Church and later transferred the membership to First Baptist Church of Raleigh where both served in the Clothing Ministry.

Linda led a very adventurous life enjoying sailing, skiing, tennis, traveling, and volunteering among other things. She and Van are members of the Raleigh Racquet Club and thoroughly enjoyed the tennis as well as the many wonderful friends and relationships they developed. Being a sports enthusiast, she was an avid fan of the Carolina Hurricanes, Panthers and Tarheels. After Van retired in 1986 they spent one full summer sailing up the east coast to Nova Scotia, then home for the winter and the following summer sailed south to the Bahamas.

As well as being a mother to her children, a wife to Van and homemaker she served as a volunteer for Historical Society of Murfreesboro, Meals on Wheels and others. Linda also served over 3,250 hours as a volunteer at Volunteers for Wake Med Raleigh, often knitting caps for new born babies. Later serving 6 years on the board and 1 year as president. She was a member of the Cardinal Singers, a volunteer woman’s chorus that performs for senior living communities, clubs and civic events.

Linda was a very genuine, loving, and caring person who would always make those around her feel special.
