Obituary For Leo Robert Klohr
Leo Robert Klohr died May 24, 2016 at his home. Leo was born May 5, 1932 in Overland, MO, the first of two children of the late Edwin Richard and Ruth Pricilla (Hamilton) Klohr. He spent his childhood in Illinois. In 1952 to 1956 he was in the U.S. Navy stationed in New Mexico. He was employed by IBM from 1957 to 1994 and moved to several cities during his work there. He retired in Raleigh, NC. He then taught and coached computer skills at Senior TechEd.
Leo was a devote Lutheran. He modeled the qualities of forgiveness, unconditional love, the importance of debates with discussions, the necessity of seeking justice and walking humbly with God. Inspired by the Gospel message in Matthew: 25, Leo helped lead the beginning of the first homeless shelter for families through Pan Lutheran Ministries. He also loved being on the board of the Peace Booth at the NC State Fair, The United Nations Association of Wake County, First Wednesdays (a monthly peace vigil on Fayetteville Street) and Lutheran Peace Fellowship. He was also a member of Peace Action and participated with Moral Mondays. He and Judy were honored by receiving the Carolyn and Cy King Peace and Justice Award at Community United Church of Christ in 2015.
Leo was predeceased by his parents, a brother-in-law Dale and granddaughter Candace. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 37 years, Judy Occhetti-Klohr, their five children: Denise McElveen (Mike), Elizabeth Frye (Ricky) , Jeniffer Klohr-Moore (Andy), Aimee Occhetti, Armand Occhetti Jr. (Brenda), 5 grandchildren and 5 great grand children, his sister Janet Newmann and several nieces and nephews. Family was his first priority and he loved gatherings at their home.
A memorial service will be at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church on June 18 at 1:00. Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 2723 Clark Ave., 27607 or Transitions LifeCare, 250 Hospice Circle, 27609.
