Obituary For Lee Thomas Wall
Lee Thomas Wall, 86, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on April 3rd. Lee was a resident of Springmoor in Raleigh, North Carolina. He was a loving, caring man to all who knew him, especially dedicated to his love of family.
He was preceded in death by his dear loving wife of 64 years, Joyce Ray Wall; his parents, Gurney and Stattie Mae Wall; and his sister, Joyce Ann Hart. Lee is survived by his daughters, Susan Wall, of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware and Sheila Wall Middleton of Forest, Virginia; and his son, Tom Wall of Raleigh, North Carolina; and their families. In addition he is survived by his siblings Claire Wall, Libby Griffin, Charles Wall, and Gary Wall. Lee was a very proud Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather and Brother.
Lee was born and raised in Wake Forest where he excelled in sports earning a basketball scholarship to Elon University. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and returned to North Carolina after the war to complete his education.
Lee married Joyce Ray, also of Wake County, in 1947 and started his professional career in Raleigh with Advance Auto in 1950. Lee and Joyce then moved to Rocky Mount, North Carolina where Lee continued to climb the ladder with Advance Auto resulting in a promotion and move to Bristol, Tennessee where their family continued to grow. In 1970, Lee was promoted to Advance’s home office in Roanoke, Virginia. Lee continued to work for Advance Auto Parts until 1992 when he retired as Senior Vice-President. Lee was a dedicated career man and a proud part in the growth of Advance Auto, spending 42 years with the company and forming countless friendships along the way.
Throughout his life Lee was active in civic activities. In Bristol, he was an active member of the Booster Club where he served as an officer for several years. He was also a member of the Elks Club, Optimist, and Jaycees, where he served the youth of Bristol as director of the annual Soap Box Derby. In Roanoke, he and Joyce built a life of family, successful careers, and an expanding group of friends which brought him much fulfillment and joy. Lee and Joyce also lived at Smith Mountain Lake, Virginia for several years where they met many lifetime companions. In 2003, he and Joyce moved back to Raleigh, North Carolina to be close to their youngest grandchildren and perfect their game of golf. Again they made many new friends who enriched their retirement years.
The family will receive visitors on Sunday, April 6th from 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. at the Renaissance Funeral Home at 7615 Six Forks Road, Raleigh, NC. On Monday, April 7th at 4:00 p.m., a memorial service will be held at the Wake Forest Church of God, 155 E. Cedar Avenue in Wake Forest, NC. A reception in the Fellowship Hall will follow the service.

I did not know Mr. Wall personally, but I wish to send my condolences to his friends and family. It is never easy to lose a loved one. In my times of loss, I have always appreciated God's promises for the future when there will be no more death or pain. Revelation 21:4 says: "And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away. To family of my dear friend, Lee Wall: I share the sadness of his passing with you. Lee and I were in service together in the Navy (Seabees). We trained together, went on liberties together, went overseas and were discharged together. I will always cherish the memories of our experiences together, along with our friendship. Susan, Shelia and Tom, I was saddened for a moment when I heard of Lee's passing. Then I thought of Joyce and know that Lee is happy again. I have fond memories of your parents.
