Obituary For Khammane Siharath

Khammane Siharath-Born August 15, 1937, Ban Phon Hong, Vientiane province, Laos. Khammane was the daughter of the late Tith Khong Khamkaenw and Nang Daeng Phommachanh. Khammane, the youngest in the family, grew up in a small village near Vientiane province with her four siblings (3 older brothers and a sister). In 1954, Khammane married Somthong Siharath, and together they raised seven children (six boys and one girl). The family left Laos in 1979 and emigrated to the United States of America in 1980, through the sponsorship of Haven Lutheran Church, and settled in Salisbury, North Carolina. Not long after the family’s arrival, Khammane learned English and took on the job as a seamstress at Fieldcrest Cannon in Salisbury, then Kannapolis, to support her family. In 2006, Khammane came to live with her youngest son and daughter-in-law in Cary. She loved her children and grandchildren, teaching them how to cook and garden, continuing on family traditions that had been passed down through generations. Through gardening, she was able to share what she grew with her family and friends. She was always giving and sharing her gifts with others. One cannot come to visit her and not take something home with them from her garden. Survivors include her children, Somchay, Somphathay, Sommano, Somsanuk, Somsavath, and Somvattana; eleven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. Khammane was preceded in death by her husband, Somthong Siharath; her oldest son, Dr. SomOck Siharath; her three brothers and sister. She will be missed tremendously – her teachings, love, wisdom, and family traditions will stay strong and endure.
