Obituary For Kenneth Lee Vanous

Kenneth L. Vanous, 80, passed away peacefully at the VA Medical Center, Durham, NC on October 24, 2022, after a lengthy illness.

He was the son of the late Ernest L. Vanous (father) and the late Cathryn Collins Vanous (mother). After graduating from high school, he attended the University of Iowa, University of North Carolina –Asheville and was a graduate of the Physician’s Assistant (PA) Program at Duke University. During his career, he worked as a PA, then at Dupont Corporation. He retired from the VA Medical Center.

He served in the Air Force during the Vietnam conflict.

Ken enjoyed golfing, fishing and loved animals, he was particularly fond of dogs.

Ken is survived by his spouse, Pat; two sons, Michael (Susan) of St. Louis, MO, Brendan (Cindy) of Seattle, WA; stepdaughter, Alisa Hall (Marcus) of Costa Rica; his brother, Steve (Eleanor) of Cedar Falls, Iowa. In addition, Ken had five grandchildren, Noah, Matthew (attending Texas A&M), Addi, Ainsley and Brayden (Costa Rica). He was proud of all of them, and they brought him much joy.

Memorial Services will be held at the St. Mary of the Angels Chapel at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Raleigh, NC on Saturday, October 29th at 11 a.m. A reception at his home will follow at 1015 Branwell Drive, Durham, NC.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Francis of Assissi Catholic Church, 11401 Leesville Rd., Raleigh, NC 27613.

    Ken it was always such a pleasure to see you and Pat, when visiting Mike, Susan, Noah and Matthew. I have such fond memories of you two, in both Atlanta and Blue Ridge. Ken, you are undoubtedly loved by your family and friends. You were a stranger to none, and we are all so very sad to hear of your passing. May God embrace you all with peace, light and love.
