Obituary For Kenneth "Ken" Lee Miller

Kenneth Lee Miller, 63, passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday, May 26, surrounded by his loving family.

He was raised in St. Albans, West Virginia by his mother, Reba Hope Allen (Hunt), and Frank “Bud” Allen. Ken moved his family to Cary, North Carolina in 1985. He ultimately settled into his dream home in the “country” of Clayton, North Carolina in 2016 with his high school sweetheart and wife, Melanie.

Ken was the proud father of Amanda, Lance, and Chase. He was the greatly beloved brother of five adoring siblings: Randy and Betty Miller of Rockford, Illinois, Diana “Sis” and Denny Wise of Calabash, North Carolina, Rick and Donna Miller of Charleston, West Virginia, Marsha and Dan Redman of Fort Mill, South Carolina, and Kim and Roger Marion of Hurricane, West Virginia.

Ken worked for Barnhill Contracting of Raleigh, North Carolina for over 25 years. He loved his job and his crew, taking immense pride in making beautiful roads throughout the Triangle. Gardening and landscaping were more than a hobby for him; they were a true passion and a gift he enjoyed sharing with his family. He was a great lover of all genres of music, but had a special place in his heart for Motown and 70’s Rock and Roll. He had a unique rapport with children and animals, who naturally gravitated toward him.

Ken truly lived by the philosophy “Work Hard, Play Hard”. His favorite things were hitting the open road on one of his Harley Davidson Motorcycles, taking in a NASCAR race, tailgating with friends, watching West Virginia University claim victory over its adversaries, and making meaningful memories with his family.

Although he left this world much too soon, his family and friends are comforted by his enduring love and legacy because Ken lived every day of his life as if it were his last.

Funeral Services will be held at Renaissance Funeral Home, 7615 Six Forks Road, on Saturday, June 2, 2018 at 12pm. There will be a visitation prior to the service from 10am - 12pm.

I, unfortunately, did not get to personally work with Ken. I work in another division of Barnhill. However, his positive influence was felt in the company and he was highly thought of and spoken of. He was like the stone thrown into the pond, he had a ripple effect on many who never knew him, but who benefited from the wake of his wonderful and loving personality. May God bless you at this time of sorrow. Jeannie Gilchrist
