Kenneth H. Smith

His sweet, gentle spirit transitioned from this earth plane on November 8, 2017. Born on August 22, 1944 in Raleigh NC, Ken graduated from Broughton High School then served in the US Navy for three years. He graduated from East Carolina University with a B.A. in Political Science, followed by a Master’s Degree in International Relations. While attending ECU he was nominated for a Rhodes scholarship. He resided in Onset Island, Mass. and Puerto Rico before returning to Raleigh. He retired in 2006 as Director of Security for the North Carolina Museum of Art. Ken lived according to his own inner light and was known for his dry wit as well as his keen powers of observation. He was a loyal friend who will be sorely missed by the many people whose lives he touched.

Preceding him in death are his parents, Lib and Gage Smith and sister Betty Smith Broder. He is survived by his brother Randy Smith, sister-in-law Pat of Cary, NC, his loving partner Alice Pettyjohn and furry friend Chloe.

A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Raleigh, 3313 Wade Avenue Saturday, November 18 at 2:00 pm.
