Obituary For Ken Lassiter

Ken Lassiter, 68, of Raleigh died peacefully at his home April 29, 2012 after a 3 year battle with cancer. Ken was the son of the late Jane Draper and Albert Kenneth Lassiter of Boykins, VA. He is remembered with love by his wife of 31 years, Sheila Hatch Lassiter and son, Joel Kenneth Lassiter, Jr.; sister Marcia Garriss and brother Gene Lassiter; mother-in-law, Beverly Hatch: sister-in-law and husband, Terrie and Rod Buckner; brother-in-law and wife, Eddie and Patty Hatch; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncle, and cousins; Godson, Keith Edmister and close friend Rusty Edmister. He graduated from Southampton County High School and received his BS in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. He served in the US Navy aboard the USS Independence and was retired from IBM. A service celebrating Ken�s life will be held at 2:30PM, Saturday, May 5, 2012 at Renaissance Funeral Home, 7615 Six Forks Rd, Raleigh, NC 27615 with Military Honors. A celebration of life will be held in Boykins, Va. at a later date. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Jeffrey Crane and the staff at Rex Cancer Center.     My grandmother lived in Boykins just down the street from where Kenny, Marcia and Gene grew up. I have fond memories of the times we spent playing baseball and other activities when my family would go to Mama Texie's house for Sunday lunch. As Kenny was a few years older than I was, I always looked up to and admired him. Later in life when I heard about his service to our country in the Navy, my admiration grew even more. My thoughts are with all of Kenny's family during this hard time. My wish is that the many wonderful memories of great times will make this time of grief easier to bear. Peace to you all. Doug

    Ken and I were bus drivers from 1966 to later. GOD bless the family and sorry to hear about Ken. Always Chip from SOuthampton High School. Thanks for serving your country.
