Obituary For Judith Womack Wilson
Judith Womack Wilson, 75, of Raleigh, NC. Judy lived her childhood years in Carthage, NC. Her family owned the Carthage Hotel across from the Moore County Courthouse where they lived in a three-bedroom apartment inside the hotel. There were several residents of the hotel who lived there year-round and were like family to her. She, her mom, and sister all sang in the choir at the Carthage Methodist Church and would have to leave the service a little early to get back to the hotel for Sunday dining arrangements. She reminisced a lot about growing up there and having to occasionally clean rooms and help serve meals when they had staff shortages.
She graduated from Union Pines High School in Moore County and earned a degree in American History at Queens University in Charlotte in 1971. After over a 20-year career in advertising sales and management at The News and Observer publishing company, Judy retired at age 50. She then enjoyed working in the yard and taking care of her cats with frequent golf outings with her friends at North Ridge Country Club. She also enjoyed working out with her regular workout buds at the Finley YMCA.
Judy enjoyed her many trips with her husband including international opportunities especially their extended trip to China before the hemorrhagic stroke in November 2017 that drastically changed her life and began challenging health issues.
Attending performances at DPAC, The North Carolina Symphony, Raleigh Little Theater, and NC State events were among her favorite activities! She loved her local charity work and philanthropy. Judy chaired many events including “Guess who’s Coming to Dinner”. She served on the boards of many organizations such as “The United Arts Council” and “North Carolina Girl Scouts”
Judy was preceded in death by her mother, father and sister, Jane (Bob). She is survived by her husband, Larry (42 years); sister-in-law, Ginger Wilson-Gines (Rick); brother-in-law, Garry Wilson (Kathy), and numerous cousins and other relatives.
A Memorial Service will be held at Highland United Methodist Church, 1901 Ridge Rd., Raleigh NC 27607, on November 16, 2024, at 2:00pm. It will also be streamed on highlandumc.org.
