Obituary for Joy Arlene Czito

Joy Arlene Czito, age 46, passed away on July 21, 2020 in Chapel Hill, NC. Joy was born in Tallahassee, Florida. She was the daughter of June Czito, Raleigh, North Carolina, and Gary Czito, Yulee, Florida.

Joy attended high school in Waycross, Georgia, and also attended college at Gainesville College and the University of Massachusetts, Boston.

Joy was an ardent lover of all living creatures and spent much of her life caring for loved ones of any and all shapes and sizes. Her wicked sense of wit and humor along with childlike affection affected and touched every person she met throughout her life. Joy was the most genuine, supportive and empathetic daughter, sister, sister-in-law, niece, cousin, wife and “Auntie” her friends and family could or would ever know. She relished stirring up the best kinds of trouble and challenged those in her life to match her enthusiasm and unbridled love every day—she was also the most eager recipient of leftovers planet Earth has ever known! She was simply unparalleled, loved beyond compare and her passing leaves a void in our lives from which we will never fully recover.

Joy is survived by her husband, Gavin Goodbread; her mother, June Czito; her father, Gary Czito (Kay); Brother, Brian Czito (Toni); Nephew, Gage Czito; Nieces, Abigail Czito and Anna Czito; Several aunts and uncles as well as cousins.

Services will be on Monday, July 27th at 10:00 a.m. at Renaissance Funeral Home, Raleigh, NC. **Due to Covid-19 restrictions, this service will be reserved for family. Thank you for understanding.

I was so sad to hear of Joy's passing. We spent a good bit of time messaging on July 14th. I am so sorry for your loss. Joy was a true friend, loyal and so loving. The love and support she gave me is unmeasurable. She was fiercely protective of those she loved. I was so happy to hear she was doing so well. She was like a sister to me. She was so supportive of my recovery and her loving words kept me strong. I was so looking forward to spending time with her as we recently reconnected. I miss her, I'm sad for the people who will never get to experience her. I'm not sure how all the stray animals in Chapel Hill will survive without her, as it seemed to be her mission to feed them all. If you were lucky enough to be one of "Her people," you were blessed with her true unconditional love and regard. There is so much I can say about my sweet Joy. She made me a better person. She loved me when I couldn't love myself, she celebrated my every success no matter how small, she was my friend, my sister, and I will treasure her memory and keep her in my heart forever. To her family, she loved you all so much. She spoke of you often and shared many loving stories with me. I cannot imagine your pain. You are in my thoughts and prayers. I wish there was something I could do for you. I would have written sooner but I just learned of her passing this past weekend. It's hard to imagine a world without Joy. The last thing she wrote to me on 7/14/2020 "One last thing; classical music really helps me. My current favorite is Danzon #2. For some reason it makes me feel. I love you sweet girl."- Joy I'm listening to Danzon #2 as I write this and it makes me feel as well, and it just sounds like Joy. Maybe it will give comfort to all that love her. I am picturing her dancing around the room and I just can't help but smile. That statement is typical of her spirit and of her always thinking of others. I am so blessed and thankful to have received this message from her. Katherine Tiller
