Obituary For Joseph Richard Claps
Joseph Claps passed away surrounded by family at WakeMed Hospital on Monday, November 22, 2021. He fought to reverse some bad health caused by COPD and Pulmonary Hypertension to continue this life here with his family. Born in Brooklyn, NY on August 24t,1944, the son of Dominick and Anna Claps.
Joe was a proud Marine receiving a Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Rifle Marksman Qualification Badge.
After being honorably discharged and returning home, Joe went on to start an amazing, loving family that will miss him very much. This family consists of a brother, Vincent; two daughters, Dawn and Amber; sons-in law, sister in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, grandkids, great grandkids, and life long friends.
Joe got to travel a lot and see a lot of great things along the way with amazing experiences throughout life. The last chapter of his life was spent in North Carolina having lived with daughter, Dawn; grandson, Nick; and granddaughter, Victoria. He was very close to his family and was blessed with love and time with grandkids and great-grandkids.
A Viewing and Visitation beginning at 2:00 p.m. and the Liturgy of the Word Service at 4:00p.m will be held on Saturday, November 27, 2021, at Renaissance Funeral Home, 7615 Six Forks Road, Raleigh, NC 27615. Joe had wishes that we all gather for a meal in his honor after the service which has been arranged at Vivo Italian Restaurant at 7400 Six Forks rd., Raleigh NC, 27615.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Wounded Warrior project to help make a difference in the lives of injured Warriors.
