Obituary For Joseph Edward Moscarito
Joseph (Smiley Joe) Moscarito, 52, of Clayton, NC, peacefully passed away on January 23, 2022, at NC Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill.
Joe was born on May 22, 1969. He grew up in Georgetown, MA, attended Georgetown High School, and graduated from Bentley College with a degree in accounting. He worked in risk management and compliance for a majority of his career. He also proudly took on small business lending work to assist business owners during the coronavirus pandemic. He was always so invested in helping people, and very dedicated to these types of projects.
He loved visiting the beach, which is where he eventually planned to retire. During summers and the holidays, he looked forward to seeing his loved ones up north, blasting metal music and Jimmy Buffett in the car on the way there. He played football and hockey in his younger years, and later in life took on coaching roles for his son’s teams. He was a dedicated barn dad as well, taking his daughter to all of her practice rides and competitions. He enjoyed cheering on the Patriots and the Bruins and frequented the golf course with his best buddies. He had many hobbies and activities he enjoyed, yet he always centered these things around spending time with his family and friends.
Joe survived a very rare cancer, which he beat in 2016. His positive attitude, faith in God, and his phone calls with his kids & family - but most of all, his personal strength - are what helped him through those times. He never once doubted that he would make it. His recent death was such an unexpected tragedy, and until the very end, he fought with admirable strength.
Joe was most known, as his nickname suggests, for his smile. He had a way of brightening up any room he walked into with his boundless energy, childlike joy, and contagious smile. He was so genuine, never letting anything dim his shining personality. Unapologetically himself, he left a mark on many lives. He deserved more years to continue spreading joy & love.
He was preceded in death by his parents Gerald and Janice Moscarito, of Georgetown, MA. He was the loving father of two children, Caitlin and Ryan Moscarito, of North Carolina; in addition, he is survived by his sister, Karen Moscarito, and her partner Dave Iseler of Merrimac, MA; his nephew and niece, Kyle and Julie Thing of Merrimac, MA; his wife, Sheri Shearin of Clayton NC; and many other family members and friends.
