When you have exhausted all possibilities, remember this: You haven't. Jon was an inspiration for me through my own struggles. A fighter, never quitter, Jon was and always will be my shining example of never giving up. Thank you Jon, truly missed but never forgotten.

Jon was a wonderful neighbor. We were the original buyers of our Pulte homes, Cedar Grove, Wakefield Plantation. We discovered our move from MA to NC made us true fans of the Patriots, Bruins, and Red Sox. Jon helped me spread mulch on my backyard garden. When my husband died from cancer, he gave me a lovely floral plant in memory of my dear husband, Mal. In time, Jon met a wonderful woman, Sonja. Eventually, they married and later moved to present home in Youngsville. I hold the many fond memories of Jon.

"I want to inspire people. I want someone to look at me and say, "because of you, I didn't give up." I have seen this saying many times and feel it is so appropriate to note at this time. I don't assume to know what you went through every day. But I want you to know what your strength, outlook on life and your determination to live gave to many of us. I can't imagine what you went through when you learned your diagnosis. But I am thinking that when you heard that news that you didn't realize what your determination to not give up would give to others. Maybe you didn't think some years back that you wanted to inspire people or maybe you did and had no idea of how you would accomplish that. But I can say with all my heart that "because of you, I didn't give up." I have shared your story over and over with anyone who would listen. And I wonder how many people hearing your story decided to try at least one more time? For those of us that felt that it would be easier to give up, we also knew that if you could keep fighting what you were going through, how could we not do the same? You have given many of us the determination to fight on and because of you we haven't given up. Rest in peace, Jon. You fulfilled what you were meant to do on this earth – you inspired so many people. We will see you again in that place where there is no pain - only love and happiness.

I was not as lucky as most of you to know Jon in his adult life or even in his youth or adolescence. I have been fortunate to know his mom and family when the Gormans lived in Wheeling, IL I moved into Wheeling when Jon was about 2. He was an adorable toddler. The one memory I have of Jon at that age is knowing when he was distressed. He would come running home to safety and love with the loudest deepest cry. He knew there would be plenty of arms to console him and understand his pain and give him love. I can still see his blond hair and diaper running down Chestnut Lane. That is my memory. Jon, rest in peace and I know your family was there with you with arms once again open to understand your pain and give you love.

Such a great neighbor. We shared so many laughs across our backyard fence, such as when I tried to boast about my (nonexistent) handyman skills to someone who actually had those skills!

When I was little I was excited to see uncle Jon and run or jog in the race with him. When I got there I could not believe it was time to run and have fun with him. And I remember when he would come with me and my family to the concerts at the gazebo next to my school. I think of him a lot and how much fun I had with him.❤️
