Obituary For John Rolfe Rothgeb

John Rolfe Rothgeb Jr. of Raleigh, age 68 died early Wednesday morning, December 2, 2015.

John was the son of the late Gladys Berry Rothgeb and John Rolfe Rothgeb. He was a 1966 graduate of Culpepper High School in Culpepper, Virginia where he was a three letter athlete. He continued his football career at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tennessee, graduating with a B.S. in 1972. John was also a member of the Tennessee National Guard.

John was a beloved Husband, Father, Brother, Colleague and Friend, making his home in Raleigh for 33 years and retiring after a successful 40 year career with a single pharmaceutical company.

John is survived by his wife Linda L. Rothgeb, daughters Lawson Rothgeb and Leigh Rothgeb, sister Carolyn Krams of New York, and brothers Robert Rothgeb and Richard Rothgeb of Virginia.

A service of remembrance will be held at 2:00pm on Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at Renaissance Funeral Home 7615 Six Forks Rd Raleigh NC. The family will receive friends following the service.

My thoughts and prayers are with you. I was in school and Boy Scouts with Johnny for many years in Culpeper, before we moved away to Richmond in our Junior year. I'll always recall fondly the scout camping trips. Even on a cold autumn morning, Johnny would wade right into the water to clean up, dipping up water and splashing furiously left and right. He was always a leader on these expeditions; always sure of himself and the right actions to take in any circumstance. We also spent happy hours exploring the area we called Turtle Valley, now covered by Lake Pelham. Johnny was a strong, true friend, and he will be greatly missed. John, or 'Bubba' as I called him, was a good friend during my youth in Roanoke and Salem. I just today found out that he had passed, and I'm so sorry. Time has passed, but I'm sure it's still difficult for Linda, Anna Lawson ('Big Al') and Leigh. We had a great bunch of friends in those days, spending hours playing tennis or cooking out at someone's apartment. And Linda cooked many a breakfast of SG&B (sausage gravy and biscuits) for the whole crew. Wonderful memories, and John was always in the middle of them. We lost touch over the years, but I've never forgotten his friendship and wise counsel many times. Rest in peace, good friend!! Mike Hodges Clemmons, NC. 27012

Hi my name is Kayla and I am a local bible teacher. I am so sorry for the loss of your loved one. There is a very comforting scripture at Isaiah 25:8. It says that soon Jehovah will swallow up death forever and that he will wipe away all of the tears. So we can all look forward to a time when death will be no more. I hope that this scripture can bring some true comfort during these difficult times.

I first met John in Roanoke, VA in 1978 when we were both pharmaceutical reps. He always made me smile whenever we would see each other. He was a terrific role model for high ethos and great judgement! We both ended up working as District Managers in Raleigh when I moved to Raleigh in 1988 with Merck. We would periodically run into each other and always enjoyed sharing our experiences managing people. I am so sorry John passed away. Rest in Peace, old friend!! Marc D. Newman Raleigh, NC
