Obituary For John Joseph Roman

John Joseph (Jack) Roman, 75, of Raleigh and Southport, NC, with family by his side, went home to be with his Lord on September 11, 2013 following his courageous battle with cancer. Born in Latrobe, PA on February 10, 1938, he is the son of the late Stephen and Mary Roman of New Derry, PA. He was pre-deceased by his brother Terrance (Terry) S. Roman. A devoted father and grandfather, Jack is survived by his loving family: his wife of 53 years Alice Gray Roman, daughter Jacqueline L. Zitt and her husband Michael of Latrobe, PA; and a son Jon J. Roman and his wife Amy of Greensburg, PA. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren Matthew Zitt of NYC; Courtney Zitt of Latrobe; Sarah Roman and Kyle Roman of Greensburg, PA. In addition, he is also survived by a sister-in-law Kena Roman of Latrobe, PA, and brothers-in law Francis (Bud) Gray of Santa Cruz, CA and Donald Gray of Derry, PA. He is also survived by many cousins and nieces and nephews. Jack graduated from Derry Borough High School, Derry, PA in 1955 and received his degree in Accounting from Saint Vincent College, Latrobe, PA in 1959. He began his career with Kennametal Inc. in Latrobe, PA as a Cost Accountant and retired in 1997 as Manager of Metalworking Manufacturing Accounting in Raleigh NC. Jack proudly served in the US Army National Guard (PA) and was honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant. While living in Latrobe, Jack was a faithful member of St. Rose Parish and served on the Parish Finance Committee for a number of years. Since moving to Raleigh, NC, he has been a member of St. Luke The Evangelist Catholic Church. He was a member of the Kennametal Employees Association, The Clubs at St. James Plantation, and a life member of Raleigh Elks Lodge #735. His grandchildren brought him his greatest joy. He also enjoyed walking (especially along the beach), golf, reading, yard work, travel, and watching the Pittsburgh Pirates, Penguins, Steelers and Carolina Hurricanes. Jack was loved by all and will be greatly missed. A public viewing will be held on Sunday, September 15 from 4-7 pm at Renaissance Funeral Home, 7615 Six Forks Road, Raleigh, NC. A funeral mass will be held at 10 am on Monday, September 16 at St. Luke The Evangelist Catholic Church, 12333 Bayleaf Church Road, Raleigh, NC with the Rev. Robert Staley, D. Min., as celebrant. The family would like to thank our friends and neighbors for their thoughts, prayers, and support during our loved one�s illness. Thanks also to the doctors, nurses, staff and volunteers at Rex Cancer Center (Raleigh) and Dosher Memorial Hospital (Southport), Wake County EMS and Brunswick County EMS Services. A special thank you to the angel caregivers and aides Samantha, Carrie, Austin, Sheila and Isatao.     Even though I did not know John personally, I really wanted to express my condolences to you and your family. Gods word the bible speaks of a time when death will be a thing of the past. Revelation 21:3, 4 is a comforting scripture that I wanted to share with you during your time of sadness.
