Obituary For Johanna Blair Fadden McDonald

Johanna Blair Fadden McDonald, 39, of Raleigh, NC died on October 10, 2021 at Duke Raleigh Hospital after a tiring battle with cancer. She was born in Hopkinsville, KY on July 16, 1982, the daughter of Kathleen and Reginald Fadden.

Jo, or JoJo as she liked to be called, grew up in South Carolina graduating from Wren High School in Piedmont. She moved to North Carolina with her parents following the birth of her son, Luke Henry, in 2006. Luke, or Lukey, was the love of her life. Johanna was a loving and dedicated mother that bravely faced the difficulties of raising an autistic son. Jo was Lukey’s biggest supporter, and with pride she gave Luke the love and affection he deserved. The best mom ever.

Jo worked in cosmetology and in bail bonding until finding her calling as a bartender. It became her calling because of how many people she met, becoming friends with virtually all of them. Jo’s legacy starts with her bubbly, giving, cheerful, and captivating personality. Jo was always the brightest light in a room of people. That smile, that laugh, those eyes. She was the first person to help anyone in need; giving someone a place to sleep, or planning a fundraiser, or a shoulder to cry on. One person said this of her, “Jo was the brightest light I’ve ever known. The world is a little dimmer without her here.” She touched the hearts and lives of so many.

Jo is survived by her parents, brother Reg III, sister Meredith, and son Luke Henry.

A celebration of Johanna’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 16, 2021, at Renaissance Funeral Home, 7615 Six Forks Road, Raleigh, NC 27615.

In lieu of flowers, please gift Luke as he journeys in life without his mother. Please click the link to make a gift offering for her son, Luke Henry at Luke's Go Fund Me page.

My name is Tamara, and I work at Heritage Middle School where Luke attends. I have worked with Luke several times over the course of his time here at HMS. I only met Johanna a handful of times. She was always smiling and very sweet, even when she didn't feel well. We are so saddened and will do everything to make sure that Luke is comforted and provided with whatever he needs! May God bless you in your time of need. Much love!
