Condolences

  • September 01, 2020

To the Ward Family, I am sorry for your loss. I send my condolences to you and yours. The Bible makes it clear that God did not originally intend for humans to die. As the Bible explains: "Through one man [Adam] sin entered into the world and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men." Romans 5:12. After sin and death entered the world, God revealed that it was his purpose that the dead be restored to life by means of a resurrection. Yes, Almighty God has not only the power but also the desire to resurrect persons whom he chooses. Jesus Christ himself said: "Do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out." John 5:28&29; Acts 24:15. May Jehovah God and Jesus Christ be with you and your Family?

JERRY WARD AND MYSELF GO BACK MORE THAT 40 YEARS AGO IN AN INDIRECT WAY AS WE TALKED ON THE PHONE WHILE WE BOTH WERE IN VIETNAM. JERRY WAS STATIONED IN SAIGON AND I WAS IN PLEIKU. ALTHOUGH WE NEVER MET WHILE IN VIETNAM, WE TALKED SEVERAL TIMES A WEEK AFTER PLEIKU WAS HIT BY ROCKET FIRE. WE ONLY KNEW EACH OTHER THEN BY OUR INITIALS. A FEW YEARS LATER, WE FINALLY MET IN THE DENTAL BUSINESS. JERRY WORKED FOR THOMPSON DENTAL AND I WAS A REP FOR S.S.WHITE. WHILE CO-TRAVELING TOGETHER FOR THE FIRST TIME, BOTH IN OUR TWENTIES AND GOING TO ROCKY MOUNT, NC AT 6:00AM, WE THEN REALIZED THAT HE WAS THE JW AND I WAS JC FROM OUR COMMUNICATIONS IN VIETNAM. THUS WAS THE BEGINNING OF A LONG TERM BUSINESS RELATIONSHIP THAT LASTED UNTIL HIS RETIREMENT. JERRY WAS CERTAINLY A SPECIAL INDIVIDUAL. HIS SMILE WAS HIS SIGNATURE AND WAS CONTAGIOUS TO EVERYONE AROUND HIM. I WILL NEVER FORGET IN MARCH 1986 WHEN THE COMPANY I WAS WORKING FOR WENT OUT OF BUSINESS. IT WAS CERTAINLY A BLEAK TIME FOR ME. JERRY WAS THE FIRST TO CALL AND CONSOLE ME. HE STATED THAT WHATEVER COMPANY I DECIDED TO GO WITH, HE AND HIS FELLOW SALES PEOPLE WOULD SUPPORT ME IN EVERY WAY. THAT WAS INDEED A TRUE FRIEND AND HIS WORDS GAVE ME THE CONFIDENCE I NEEDED AT THAT PARTICULAR TIME. JERRY TOUCHED SO MANY PEOPLE, AND ALL THAT KNEW HIM WILL SURELY MISS THIS WONDERFUL MAN.

We have all lost a dear friend and kind gentleman. Jerry always had a smile for you when he greeted you. He always led you to believe that you were so welcomed in his presence. A lesson for all to carry on in his memory. I remember in my youthful start in the dental industry co-traveling with Jerry in eastern NC and him sharing his knowledge so freely. I thought Jerry to be the ultimate professional. What I didn't know, was that Jerry took the time to write Cardell Bunch in the Thompson Dental Company home office to emphasize to Cardell how much he appreciated working with me. All the while I was admiring Jerry's work, he was thinking of how he might praise me to others. That ability to find value in others and share a kindness or two is a lasting legacy that Jerry gracefully shared. I thank you all in the Ward family for sharing Jerry, this sweet, kind man, with many of us for so long. God be with you!

Jerry has always been a inspiration to me both in a professional way and in a personal way. When I was getting started in the Dental Supply business, Jerry was the go to guy to help me figure out what to recommend to my clients and to be there to help out with advice. In a personal way, Jerry was a fighter. Never complaining, but accepting what came his way and made the best of it. He always had a word of encouragement. We will miss him. Rest peaceful, my friend.
