Obituary For Jeffrey Ross DeVries

Jeffrey Ross DeVries, 26, of Durham, N.C. died Wednesday, November 30, 2016 in a tragic accident resulting in asphyxiation, at his home.

Jeffrey was born in 1990, in Wilmington, North Carolina, the son of Robert(Bob) and Nancy R. DeVries. He was moved to Raleigh, North Carolina by his parents in 1991. Jeffrey attended schools in Raleigh, graduating from Sanderson High School. He completed classes at MyComputerCareer.edu earning him full computer certification.

Jeffrey reached the rank of Eagle Scout of the Boy Scouts of America and had been a member of Troop 374. He achieved his Eagle rank upon completion of a project that provided two picnic tables to Umstead State Park in 2008.

Jeffrey began working at Lowe’s Foods in the Deli to earn money to pay for his computer classes. He loved working in the Deli, because he enjoyed being able to move around and interact with the customers while working he decided to make that his career. He was recently promoted to Manager of the Chicken Shack.

This past March, Jeffrey moved to Durham to share a house with his cousin, Richard DeVries. He loved being his cousin’s roommate who was like a 2nd brother to him. He also loved his church, Bethlehem Baptist Church. The members embraced Jeffrey and he became a highly participating member, constantly crusading for Christ and inviting family members and friends to join him at his church.

There was no one that Jeffrey did not love and he was always willing to help those who asked for it.

Jeffrey is survived by his parents, Bob and Nancy, and his brother Jason. He also leaves his maternal grandfather, Hulin Robert of Hammond, Louisiana; and his paternal grandparents Walter and Lois DeVries of Wilmington, North Carolina. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and many good friends.

He is preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Elizabeth(Betty) Robert.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Renaissance Funeral Home in Raleigh. Visitation and the Funeral will be on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at Bethlehem Baptist Church, 7215 Six Forks Rd., Raleigh N.C. 27615; visitation will begin at 11:00 and the funeral will begin at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you consider donations to Jeffrey’s church which was very important to him.
