Jeannette Margaret Starkenburg, 68, of Raleigh, NC died peacefully on August 11, 2021, at Transitions Hospice after a brief battle with cancer. She was born in New Orleans, LA on May 30, 1953, the daughter of the late Jeannette and David D. Phillips. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, David Phillips of New Orleans, LA. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Robert Starkenburg of Raleigh, NC and her two sons, Derek Starkenburg of Cary, NC and Justin Starkenburg of New York City, NY.

Jeannette was a caring mother and wife, and a lover of animals. There were always one or more dogs in her life. She was passionate about football, both college and professional. She loved nothing more than spending time with her family and friends, as well as her beloved pets. She will be missed by all.

A private cremation service will be held on Friday, August 13, 2021, with a Celebration of Life to follow in the Spring. The family wishes to thank the staff of the UNC Rex MSICU and Transitions LifeCare for their kindness and compassion during Jeannette's recent illness.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent in her name to the ASPCA.

She had a fierce personality and a loving heart. All the joy she brought lives on through those great pets she helped to bring into the world, the small kindnesses done near and far, and her two awesome sons. Her authentic Louisiana cooking had no comparison - red beans & rice 😋 All the best as you travel through the next world JJ
