Obituary For Jean S. Holt

Jean Schandelmier Holt, formerly of Charleston, WV, died Monday, November 5th, in Raleigh, after a short illness. She was 98.

Raised and educated in Altoona, PA, Jean was a nurse at the Marine Hospital, Baltimore, MD before moving to Charleston in 1948 and living there until 2002. She served in the West Virginia House of Delegates, and was on the Charleston City Council as an at-large member for several terms. She was active in the First Presbyterian Church, Charleston, and in several community service organizations, and since 2002 she was a member of the North Raleigh Presbyterian Church.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. John A. B. Holt, by her sister, Alice Hileman Bulger, and by her brother, Wayne Schandelmier, a WW II air-sea rescue pilot.

Jean is survived by her sister, Lois Schandelmier, of Hollidaysburg, PA, and by her sons Tom of Germantown, MD, Andy of Morgantown, WV, and Fred of Raleigh, NC. There are 8 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.

Jean will be honored with a memorial service at 11 AM on November 17th at the Presbyterian Home, 220 Newry St., Hollidaysburg, PA 16648. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the North Raleigh Presbyterian Church, 11905 Strickland Rd., Raleigh, NC 27613 (Memo: Jean Holt Memorial Fund), to benefit the church�s community mission at Christmastime.

    To express my condolences to family and friends of Jean S.Holt.Jean lived a long life and had the life the Bible call "special mightiness."(Psalms 90:10)However it doesnot change the pains of death that is in our hearts.At John 5:28&29Jesus Christ assures us that everyone in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out.This wonderful promise of aresurrection is held out to all of those who have fallen asleep in death.(Acts 24:15)These promises and more because according to 1John 4:8,"God is love."
