** please consider a donation to the link at the end of the obituary in lieu of flowers
James “Jack” Chauncey Keel, of Garner, North Carolina died unexpectedly on June 25, 2018, at the age of 36.
Jack was born in Greenville, North Carolina, to Rufus Vanoy Keel III and Sallie Ann Chauncey.
Jack graduated from St. Timothy’s-Hale School in 2000 and attended North Carolina State University. After high school, Jack served his country in the Army and trained as a medic. He was honored to work at Walter Reed Army Hospital.
He was employed by Rex Hospital and was a proud member of the “3rd shift team” that consisted of a tight-knit group of medical professionals that grew to be more than co-workers.
Jack was an avid hockey fan and he was passionate about playing on his ice hockey team, the Ice Hogs! When Jack wasn’t playing hockey, he could be found cheering on the Carolina Panthers and looking for someone to go to the game with.
Jack will be remembered and greatly missed by his family and circle of friends. He was known for his compassion, dedication, love, and talent for making cheesecakes for his friend’s birthdays, or a great gourmet mac-n-cheese for any occasion.
He is survived by his parents Rufus Vanoy Keel III (Dee) and Sallie Chauncey Mercer. He is also survived by Joel, 2 Caras, Joe, Stephanie and many others.
Please bring pictures and memories of Jack when you attend his memorial gathering. In lieu of sending flowers, Jack’s memory would be honored if donations were made to the following: https://www.gofundme.com/the-jack-keel-memorial-icehogs-fund
