Obituary For James Bernard Weigold

James B. Weigold, age 82, of Raleigh, North Carolina passed away peacefully on July 29, 2015 from complications from Parkinson’s Disease.

Jim was born in the Bronx, New York on May 6, 1933 to the late Frederick and Lillian Weigold.

Jim received a BA in Civil Engineering in 1955 from Cooper Union School of Engineering in New York City. In 1957, while a teaching assistant at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institution in Troy, New York, he received a Master’s in Civil Engineering. Jim also received a Master’s in Environmental Engineering from the University of California, Irvine.

Before retiring, Jim worked for the Environmental Protection Agency as Associate Director for Program Operations in the office of Air Quality Planning and Standards (OAQPS) in Durham.

In retirement, Jim enjoyed being a church volunteer, traveling, golfing, gourmet cooking and playing bridge. But most of all, his best times were spent doing anything with his family and his wonderful friends.

Jim is survived by his wife, Laura Weigold, son Jamie C. Weigold (Jennifer), daughter Alison R. Pollock (Brad), and three grandchildren; Grayson J. Weigold, Landon C. Weigold and Anna H. Pollock.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to American Parkinson Disease Association www.apdaparkinson.org

When I moved to Durham in 1986, I had the pleasure of working with Jim on a project at EPA. I loved his sense of humor, his knowledge of environmental issues and his straight forward approach when dealing with people and issues. It was an honor to know him. Rest in peace Jim. With deepest sympathy to his family. Denise Gerth

Back in EPA's earliest days, I came to work for the air regulatory group, then called BSSPCP (think it was Bureau of Stationery Source Pollution Control Programs). While there I had the opportunity to work with one Jim Weigold. It was a heady time of making the Clean Air Act become more than new legislation. I am so sorry to hear about the Parkinson's - a heavy burden to bear. Peace Vandy Bradow
