Obituary For Iris Edna Hoppe

Our world of family and friends lost a sweet, spunky, special lady when Iris Hoppe passed away on January 6, 2017. She was born August 4, 1922 to Charles and Sarah Swearingen in Clinton, Illinois, a small town in central Illinois. After attending junior college in California, Iris joined the Navy in World War II as a Pharmacist Mate stationed in Pensacola, Florida, where she met her future husband Bill. They were married May 29, 1947 and would have celebrated their 70th anniversary this year.

Iris enjoyed working as an Administrative Assistant for Rolling Prairie Library System in Decatur, Illinois and for Barnett Bank in Sarasota, Florida. Bill and Iris had lived most of their lives in central Illinois until the winters proved too much for them. They moved to Florida where they lived in several locations during their 37 years there.

Iris is survived by her husband William, daughter Janet Hiser (Don) of Raleigh and son Dale Hoppe (Donna) of Mt. Morris, Illinois, as well as two grandsons Jeff and Chris and four greatgrandchildren.

We want to say a special thank you to the incredibly caring staff at Elmcroft of Northridge Senior Living, to the angels at Transitions Lifecare Hospice, and to our wonderful friends for their caring support. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Transitions LifeCare at 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607 or to a charity of your choice in honor of this well-loved wife, mother, and friend.

I never got to know Iris other than a hello & a smile but what a SMILE THAT WAS! She certainly has a wonderful husband & daughter who loved her very much; she will definitely be missed by all who would fortunate enough to make her acquaintance. My thoughts & prayers are with her family. Beth Williams

    She will be missed

I have so many childhood memories of your mom during the Decatur years. Some fun ones: I was always taller than all of us girls including Iris - She often asked me to get something down from a kitchen cupboard for her. She put vinegar on our back yard sun burns. You had to rest or read after lunch every day in the summer - to my chagrin. She told you, "You don't get everything you want, Janet." I remember that - probably a response to a request for candy or... Now all the moms from that neighborhood are gone and, boy, do I miss them! I guess our generation is "up to bat" now and we are doing our best to make those moms proud. I salute you, Iris Hoppe. Janet's a fine girl! love to you all, Leslie Olsson White in Michigan
